Alstef check-in conveyors provide the interface between passenger check-in and the airport baggage handling system, supporting the weighing, tagging, queuing and controlled induction of checked baggage onto the collector conveyor. Available in flat and cascade designs and single, double or triple configurations, the range can be adapted to different check-in layouts, operational requirements and baggage throughput.
Integrated weighing units feature scales approved to international standards and interface with DCS/CUTE systems. Window reservation controls manage the release of bags onto the collector conveyor, supporting accurate bag tracking, controlled spacing and reliable baggage flow.
Designed for straightforward operation and maintenance, check-in conveyors feature user-friendly controls, easy electrical isolation and a roll-out design for maintenance access. The range can also be integrated with airport security systems and emergency-stop devices.

Choosing a check-in conveyor configuration
The number of conveyor units at a check-in position affects how many bags can be processed concurrently and the space required for the installation.
Single check-in conveyor
A single conveyor completes each stage of the check-in process before the next bag can be processed. Induction may also be delayed while waiting for an available window on the collector conveyor.

Lower-throughput airports and check-in areas where floor space is limited.
Double check-in conveyor
Once weighed and tagged, the bag moves to the second conveyor to queue for induction. This allows the next bag to be processed while the previous bag waits for an available collector conveyor window.

Standard check-in applications requiring efficient continuous bag processing.
Triple check-in conveyor
The three stages allow different bags to be weighed, tagged and queued for induction concurrently. Up to three bags can be at different stages of the check-in process at the same time, helping maintain a continuous flow of baggage.

The choice depends primarily on required baggage throughput, available floor space and the check-in and collector conveyor layout. Single conveyors suit lower-throughput or space-constrained applications, double conveyors are the standard configuration for many airports, and triple conveyors support higher-throughput check-in operations.
Flat and cascade check-in conveyors offer different operational and installation characteristics. Cascade conveyors can assist with tub loading, while flat conveyors can operate in reverse, providing greater operational flexibility. Flat conveyors can also be configured to accommodate different collector conveyor heights, whereas the cascade design has a fixed discharge height. The preferred configuration therefore depends on the airport's baggage process, check-in layout and collector conveyor interface.
Once check-in processing is complete, the bag is queued until an appropriate window is available on the collector conveyor. The check-in conveyor then releases the bag into the baggage handling system, with the control system managing induction to maintain the required spacing between bags.
Check-in throughput is influenced by the availability of induction windows on the collector conveyor. If a bag cannot be released immediately, it must wait at the check-in position. Double and triple conveyor configurations provide additional queuing capacity, allowing subsequent bags to continue through earlier stages of check-in while another bag waits for induction. BHS controls can also be configured to prioritise induction from selected check-in positions, helping maintain access to collector conveyor windows and prevent upstream check-ins from being disadvantaged by baggage entering further downstream.
