Alstef Group is fast approaching the completion of yet another transformative project!
Through a rigorous competitive process in 2019, Alstef Group was selected to supply, install, and commission the new baggage handling system at Princess Juliana International Airport, the primary gateway on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Sint Maarten. The evaluation criteria for this project were heavily weighted on the proponent’s ability to meet the technical specification requirements and a proven history of comparable project deliveries. Alstef Group has a rich history of delivering cutting-edge baggage handling solutions and support to islands in the Caribbean. This includes successful projects in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Guadeloupe, and Martinique.
As the smallest island in the world to host two countries, Sint Maarten/Saint Martin is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, pristine beaches, duty-free shopping, and unique cultural experiences across surrounding Leeward Islands. This substantial upgrade project, managed by the World Bank, formed part of a comprehensive terminal improvement initiative following the impact of Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The comprehensive baggage system upgrade features:
- Outbound sortation system with 27 check-in locations;
- Two in-line Standard 3 Explosive Detection Systems (EDS);
- Automatic sortation to three makeup carousels controlled by Alstef Group’s proprietary BAGSORT Lite software;
- Inbound system comprising three new horizontal carousels with feed lines.
As we near the completion of this project, we express gratitude for the trust bestowed upon us by Princess Juliana International Airport. The Alstef team looks forward to delivering operational excellence, enhancing the airport’s efficiency, and contributing to the vibrant travel experience in Sint Maarten.
