Background
Delivered within one of Australia's busiest live airport environments, the project involved the replacement and commissioning of multiple screening lines, integration with existing baggage handling infrastructure, and the installation of new ECAC Standard 3-compliant screening technology.
The project was completed ahead of schedule, enabling Sydney Airport to meet regulatory compliance requirements well before the mandated deadline while maintaining uninterrupted passenger and baggage operations.
The Solution
The Terminal 2 scope included:
- In-situ replacement of three existing screening machines with ECAC Standard 3-compliant systems.
- Modifications to all baggage conveyor screening lines.
- Integration works to maintain operational continuity throughout construction and commissioning.
Terminal 3
The Terminal 3 scope included:
- Installation and commissioning of three new baggage screening lines.
- Integration of three ECAC Standard 3-compliant X-ray screening machines.
- Modifications to the existing tilt tray sorter inducts and chutes.
- Upgrades to support future operational requirements and passenger growth.
Following design completion, Alstef managed manufacturing, logistics, installation, testing, and commissioning activities. Works were carefully staged to minimise operational disruption while maintaining airport performance and passenger service levels.
