GLIDEPATH COMPLETED A MAJOR CANADIAN AIR TRANSPORT SECURITY AUTHORITY (CATSA) RECAPITALISATION PROJECT
Kelowna International Airport is among the busiest airports (by passenger traffic) in Canada. Glidepath undertook a three-year CATSA (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority) recapitalisation project, and this was completed eight months ahead of schedule, while the airport remained fully operational—the baggage system working throughout the project, with zero baggage disruption. This required the installation of two, separate, temporary systems to maintain baggage flow, while building the full system, with exact phasing plans and schedules tied to the airport operations and the works undertaken by the general contractor. The final system was inclusive of check-in conveyors, through to make-up carousels, and included three four-way sorters (one of which needed to be cantilevered over a building expansion joint), two three-way Vertisorts, two CTX5800 explosive detection systems, two Herbert Pathfinda bag alignment devices, and a vertical lift for threat bag evacuation.
Henry Castorf, Kelowna Airport Project Manager, provided glowing feedback on the team’s performance and was extremely satisfied with the end result. Milton Purchase, VP Canadian Operations said, “the team pulled off an outstanding project implementation, delivering a well-executed project ahead of time and within budget.”
“The project achieved substantial completion eight months ahead of schedule, with no critical impacts to the airport’s operations. The YLW team greatly appreciated Glidepath’s attention to detail, expertise, commitment to safety, security and communication and constant professionalism. I would highly recommend Glidepath for any baggage project.” Michelle Barnes, Program Director, 3BP Solutions Ltd., Vancouver, BC (Owners’ Representative for the $30M Outbound Baggage Project)
