Reykjavík–Keflavík Airport BHS - Alstef Group

Reykjavík–Keflavík Airport

In January 2023, Alstef Group successfully completed and commissioned the new baggage handling system at Keflavik Airport, as part of a comprehensive terminal expansion project led by Iceland airport operator Isavia.

About this Project

  • Location: Keflavík, Reykjavík, Iceland

The turn-key project encompassed the design, construction, and integration of both the arrivals and departure baggage handling systems. The project included a pivotal upgrade to the outbound system, replacing the existing Standard 2 Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) system with superior ECAC Standard 3 Explosive Detection System (EDS) machines, sourced from Smiths Detection. Alstef Group’s solution provided improved conveyor connectivity and redundancy to optimize the functionality of the new EDS machines.

The arrivals system also underwent a substantial transformation. To support Keflavik continuous growth, the arrival building was expended. This allowed for the integration of four new inclined carousels with associated feeding lines and a new oversize inbound line to bolster efficiency and streamline operations.

“We are thrilled with the successful completion and seamless integration of the baggage handling system at Keflavik Airport. This achievement stands as a testament to our team’s dedication, expertise, and commitment to delivering excellence in every project we undertake” states Fabien OLIVIER, Airport Business General Manager at Alstef Group.
